Brain Injury Lawyers - TBI Compensation Claims
A concussion is a head injury that can be a minor problem or a major problem. Concussions are generally temporary and interfere with brain function for a time. Memory, reflexes, speech, balance, judgment and coordination are all affected by a concussion.
Concussions can be caused by a blow to the head but can also be caused by an acceleration deceleration injury to the head, such as in shaken baby syndrome. Many people with a concussion don’t actually lose consciousness and a few people don’t realize they’ve had a concussion. All concussions, even if not severe, cause a degree of brain damage but most people recover completely without significant intervention.
Our brain injury lawyers deal with applications for awards of damages for personal injury. Compensation is paid in full with no deductions. We do not ask you to fund or finance the claim as it proceeds. If you would like free legal advice with no further obligation just call the helpline, email our offices or use the contact form.

^^ back to the topSymptoms of a Concussion
The symptoms of a concussion can be minor and aren’t apparent immediately. When symptoms of concussion secondary to trauma do occur, on the other hand, the most common things you’ll see are amnesia of the event or circumstances around the event. Another common symptom is confusion that can last for minutes to hours. Other signs or symptoms include dizziness, headache, ringing in the ears, slurred speech, nausea, vomiting or tiredness.
Hours or days later, one may experience memory difficulties, concentration problems, sleep problems, irritability, sensitivity to noise and light and depression.
Children, including infants and toddlers, are especially prone to getting a head injury such as a concussion. Symptoms are more subtle in younger children and include irritability, listlessness, change in sleep patterns, change in eating patterns and a lack of interest in toys they usually like. They can be unsteady when they walk and can have a loss of balance.
If your child has repeated vomiting, loss of consciousness, seizures, worsening headache, changes in coordination or behavior, blood from the nose or ears, a serious head laceration, slurred speech or confusion, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Our brain injury lawyers also deal with applications for awards of damages for personal injury on the basis of miss-diagnosis by healthcare professionals which can cause a worsening of the initial problem.

^^ back to the topCauses of Concussion
Most cases of concussion come from a blunt trauma to the head. It can be due to a sports injury, a fall, a motor vehicle accident or a motorcycle accident. In some cases, a concussion can be due to an acceleration deceleration injury, such as with a motor vehicle accident without actual head trauma or due to shaken baby syndrome.

^^ back to the topTreatment of Concussion
Most people with concussion need rest in order to recover and heal their brain. They can take Tylenol or stronger pain medications for pain but things like ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin can prolong bleeding and should not be used in this situation. If the injury is due to a sports injury, you need to consider talking to your doctor about when it is safe to go back to playing sports. If you play too soon, you risk the chance of getting another head injury on top of the injury you already had. The second injury tends to be more severe than the first. You shouldn’t return to playing sports if you have any residual symptoms of the previous head injury. If the symptoms resulted in loss of consciousness or amnesia for the event, you shouldn’t play competitive sports for at least a week.
Our brain injury compensation claim solicitors also deal with applications for awards of damages for personal injury on the basis of erroneouseroneous t treatment by healthcare professionals which can cause a worsening of the initial problem.

^^ back to the topPrevention of Concussion
The best way to avoid a concussion is to wear protective helmets in sports that may lead to a concussion. This includes bicycling, skiing, motorcycling, riding horses, skating or football. In addition, you should always buckle your seatbelt, whether you’re driving or not. Keep your home as fall-proof as possible with few rugs, less clutter and few things that children or toddlers can get into. Pad the countertops and edges of tables so the toddler doesn’t bump into the corners. Install window guards so the toddler can’t jump out of the window. If you are swimming, you shouldn’t dive into water under 3 meters deep. If you are elderly, where hard-soled, flat shoes that don’t slip and that improve your balance.
